Colour it green!
Lent is a time when people who are trying to follow in the footsteps of Jesus, take up spiritual practices to connect with the 40 days he spent in the desert, preparing for his ministry. Purple is usually the colour associated with Lent but this year we are going to “colour it green”!
Let us rise to the challenge of climate change one step at a time and join together in solidarity with peoples of all faith on our planet. Theologically, economically, and ecologically, let us walk gently upon the earth this Lenten season and may we discover both appreciation and gratitude as we connect with God, our earth, our neighbours, and ourselves.
We are called upon “to live with respect in Creation”; by developing a clear awareness of our connectedness to the web of creation, a deep appreciation of its beauty and fragility. We also need to honour the beauty of the earth by reducing our individual and communal impact on creation – our carbon footprint. This can be done in many ways, for details please click here.
Here are a couple of examples that caught my eye –
- Give up disposable cups and drinks in plastic bottles. Carry a travel mug and/or reusable water bottle
- Use bar soap instead of liquid hand soap. This is an easy change to make and if you are feeling keen, you can even make your own soap bars.
May we all walk lightly,
