Jazz Reflection Oct2 2021 Facebook

Alone Together

I am very much looking forward to hearing how these renowned musicians will interpret their chosen theme “Alone Together”, for the October 2 opening of a new Jazz & Reflection season. What songs will they pick and what insights will be shared? Well, the only way to know the answers to these questions is to attend, either virtually or in person.

There is a difference between feeling lonely and being alone. Perhaps during the pandemic, the line between the two has thinned, as we have not always been able to choose. Making the choice to be alone is quite different from enforced isolation – even for good reasons. And we can feel lonely despite being in the midst of people.

Perhaps the essence of “alone together” is held in the biblical image of a mother eagle flying just below her offspring, flying solo for the first time. I will raise you up on eagles’ wings, bear you on the breath of dawn. Psalm 91 paraphrase by Michael Joncas.
