Sharing love – one stitch at a time

If you have been checking out the “Knitting for Shivering Children” webpage at
then you will know that the group has been active through-out the height of the pandemic lock-down. Stories were shared, photographs of completed projects sent with quiet pride and spirits were lifted by the sense of community – albeit at a distance.

The result of this was on October 6 a whopping 1,374 knitted and crocheted items were delivered to the Canadian Food for Children warehouse (see photo). Pat Davies, the facilitator of the group says
The CFFC volunteers were amazed as they helped unload 292 blankets, 843 sweater/vests, and 239 hats. About 10 bags went to the loading dock for that day’s shipment to El Salvador, with the rest bound for a shipment to Malawi the next day and subsequent African destinations.

The teamwork and camaraderie of this group is inspiring. The knitted and crocheted items were first taken from basements where they had been carefully stored for over a year. It then took six cars and drivers to get this bounty to the warehouse. And that is not all…generous donations of $240 each went to Canadian Food for Children and Beach United Church.

With gratitude and thanks,
Karen Dale, in ministry with Beach United Church
