Greetings Beach UC Community!

Beach United Church Board Eblast – January 2023

Happy New Year! On behalf of the Board I hope folks had a great holiday and that January has been a good start to the year. It has certainly been busy already for the Board!

First off, we want you to book Sunday April 2nd in your calendars to attend on Zoom or in-person the Annual Congregational Meeting which occurs just after service at 11:30. This is a great opportunity to get caught up on all the great things that happened at Beach in 2022 and to find out where we are headed in 2023. We will send a link closer to the date.

Secondly, we are looking for some new members for the Board! Our current mandate provides for up to 6 voting members (in addition to our Ministry & Personnel colleagues and Greg, of course). We will have vacancies for two current positions and openings for two more. It would be great to have members who represent the many different communities who attend Beach; so, please consider putting your hat in the ring. If you want more information about what is involved (or think you don’t have enough experience but are interested) please reach out to one of us and we will be happy to give some detail on what is involved. You can always email us at: board@beachuc.com.
And, if Board work isn’t your cup of tea, there are many other ways to be involved in the Beach UC community. Providing input on worship, joining the choir, working with youth, helping in the garden, planning a fundraising event or helping with the Christmas Marketplace (yes, it is never too early!) are all great ways to live your commitment in service.

We would also extend an invitation for those of you who are in the building during the week to drop in and say hello to Karen Cornece, our General Manager or Allison Woo who is handling our communications and social media. And we are happy to welcome Virginia Evoy as our new Events Coordinator and who will be looking after building rentals. She starts on February 1 and Alex McMullan has joined us as a member of the Property Care team. You will note we have also posted for a Property Manager (For more info go to: https://beachunitedchurch.com/careers/ ). Spread the word if you know of anyone who might be interested.

We continue to move forward with our work to become an Affirming Church and you will hear more about that at the Annual Meeting. This means we declare ourselves to be fully inclusive of people of all sexual orientations and gender identities and will join a larger network of churches who have also made this commitment.

Lastly, for those of you who joined from what was Kew Beach UC, you will be happy to see a familiar face once again at church. Frank Hamper was a member of the ministerial team at Kew before he left to head to Napanee and is now back in Toronto! Better still, Frank is going to act as a Voluntary Associate Minister, filling in where needed. Amongst other awesome talents, Frank was well known for leading a running group prior to Sunday service and cooking great breakfasts! Join us in welcoming him back to the Beach UC community.

As always, if you have questions or comments, please feel free to contact us at: board@beachuc.com.
