Thrive rather than survive

We need a new normal: not go back to the way things were. Imagine putting people first and creating communities where everyone thrives; rather than at best, merely survives.

Dr. Kwame McKenzie, CEO of the Wellesley Institute, writes about this “new normal” https://www.wellesleyinstitute.com/healthy-communities/a-new-normal/ It means good jobs, employment rights and a living wage; a revitalized benefits system based on a universal basic income and a housing strategy that makes homes affordable. We need to: right-size our health and social services sector; improve standards for long-term care homes; reconsider the shelter system and find homes for the homeless.

Some people say that we need comfort during these challenging times. What better way to bring lasting comfort than to confront injustice; turning upside down what was considered normal? What better way to honour the people who have died because of COVID-19 and those who will die because they are unable to access proper care, than to make lasting change?
