Keep it simple

Parker J. Palmer is 81 years old and speaks of a world that is "both astonishingly beautiful and horrifically cruel". As the years have unfolded for him, "sanctuary" has become as vital as breathing.

The worship theme for September is "sanctuary" and we'll be exploring what that means. Is it a church or a temple or a monastery or other space that has come to be known as sacred? Or might it be something different?

Often I find it in places sacred to my soul: in the natural world, in the company of a trustworthy friend, in solitary or shared silence, in the ambience of a good poem or good music. Sanctuary is wherever I find safe space to regain my bearings, reclaim my soul, heal my wounds, and return to the world as a wounded healer. It’s not merely about finding shelter from the storm: it’s about spiritual survival. Parker Palmer

This week I have been gathering my thoughts and evocative images to make a video which explores how keeping our lives simple, might be another way of experiencing sanctuary. Click the link to watch - https://vimeo.com/453454741

May you find places of sanctuary this long weekend.
Blessings, Karen Dale [in ministry with Beach United Church]
