Be Daring!

Have you heard this one – the story of a person on their hands and knees under a street light late at night, searching for their missing car keys? A passerby asks if that is the spot where they dropped the keys. The person replies, “No, but the light is much better here.”

We tend to avoid information that contradicts a preferred position or an expected answer. And we often do this unconsciously – in the dark as it were. We don’t stop to ask if the thinking we use is more convenient than it is helpful in shedding light on a problem.

Immanuel Kant famously said, “Dare to understand.” Being open to understanding how we process information, requires a willingness to question the way we think and then dare to change.

Jesus put it this way
"Why do you see the speck that is in your friend’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? First take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your friend’s eye.—Matthew 7:1-5

May we dare to be compassionate, rather than judgmental.
